Quite the interesting momentary slice of life style presentation for the video. Seeing the small bite sized clips of action shows just how much goes on in life.

Another cool aspect of the video is that it makes us wonder what the backstories are to the various scenarios. Quite interesting indeed!

I was impressed with the idea and execution of this project. It was a great idea for creating a short film. It is obvious to me that the final result is evidence of judicious editing. Matt likely had several seconds per day from which to cull his choice of "The ONE." To me, it was an editors showcase and interesting to watch for the reasons you mention.

Once you start thinking about it and get beyond the initial "wow" factor - which I think it has, in a quiet way - then, as you say, the role of the editor is very interesting. Against what criteria were the shots chosen ... etc. It's certainly set me thinking about "the editor" generally - and the question of self-censorship too.

You are so right about the "wow factor" - we are all familiar with fast moving clips representing a passage of time. It is just the idea that this is the common man recording the mundane views as he goes about his existence. I think we all could have made this video and packed just as much wow factor into our own version. Food for thought... Look at anyone on the street and imagine a year in the life through their eyes... look at yourself and recall one second from 365, 155, 75 or even seven days ago... ahh the untapped power of the recorded image [smiley::D]

I like your take on the editor within... [smiley:eh]

Re. self-censorship: I was watching a documentary on/by Nina Conti the other day, and the film quotes Ken Campbell quoting von Schiller:

“In the case of the creative mind, it seems to me, the intellect has withdrawn its watchers from the gates, and the ideas rush in pell-mell, and only then does it review and inspect the multitude. You worthy critics, or whatever you may call yourselves, are ashamed or afraid of the momentary and passing madness which is found in all real creators, the longer or shorter duration of which distinguishes the thinking artist from the dreamer. Hence your complaints of unfruitfulness, for you reject too soon and discriminate too severely.”

Now that's something to ponder for the New Year ...!
