Mathematical Obsession?

Mathmatics is. No thought necessary. It could be argued that mathmatics represents the most elemental force in nature. It is through the unlocking of mathematical secrets that a deeper understanding of our existence may be brought into sharper focus.

In the quest for knowledge, humans have managed to increase the resolution of their understanding. However, despite extreme mathematical advancements we always seem to to be left wanting. Staring at our calculations in an effort to glean a gimps of some previously obscured bit of our existence. 

Prime Numbers

prime number n. A positive integer not divisible without a remainder by any positive integer other than itself and one.
Primes < 100: 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29,31,37,41,43,47,53,59,61,67,71,73,79,83,89,97

It is reckoned that a list of prime numbers would stretch to infinity. The quest to find the largest prime number is a prime example of how simply understanding is never enough for the human race. We must know. We must posess the knowledge. It is into this eternal quest for knowledge that many are lured. Into the adventure and discovery that awaits all who enter the facinating world of numbers.

Impressed with the work done by Carlos, I was inspired to take a look once again at my personal, perenial mathematical obsession - one which I refer to as:

The Square Peg in the Round Hole

I have spent countless hours contemplating the relationships present in the nesting of a square within a circle within a square ad infinitum and suspect vast implications for universal understanding hidden within this simple construction.

Since I am not a mathematician (by any stretch of the imagination) I have not ventured too deeply into the formulas needed to unravel this puzzle. However, I am fascinated with my minds connection to the underlying math present therein and can seriously relate to the undeniable compatibility of human thought with mathematical concepts. Does this make me a lunatic? Quite possibly.

Well suffice it to say, I did not have a "eureka" moment as a result of my recent geometrical goffin' but I did end up with some pretty unique desktop wallpaper tiles for my trouble.

Much like this blog - I really don't know what stands to be accomplished through the effort required. It is certainly one of those things that seem to be great source of mental exercise. I would be the first to admit that mental exercise would not be wasted on yours truly.
