Quite true Mike. We're normally so occupied with our daily problems that we rarely take time to truly look at things beyond an autopilot mode. It's sort of the insect world's version of "can I eat it or can it eat me" type of reactions where our brain filters out anything that isn't deemed important such as a threat, something important to our current task or shiny (sexy) things that attract us.

As kids, we weren't quite wrapped up into the daily grind yet and looked at things in different ways on a regular basis. Hence the reason for such wonderful imaginations at that age. It's funny how we have don't always realize how after we become preoccupied adults we might benefit from reverting back to our more curious childhood ways of seeing the world around us.

Being right in the middle of taking art classes, the concept of seeing things is a big part of what we learn. We have to break our habits and look closer at the world around us. The net result is seeing things that we never realized were there. If those things were rattlesnakes, they would have jumped up and bit us already without us ever knowing they were there until too late. Fortunately, they aren't rattlesnakes (usually) and fortunately, a person can change how they look at the world around them. :)
