After a fair amount of hacking around I have finally succeeded in getting a functioning "Login with Facebook" feature installed on BlogDogIt. I hope you enjoy the convenience of registration-free access to the site.*
Of course if you would rather leave Facebook out of it, you may now also register for a BlogDogIt account. Simply "Sign up as a New User" and get your authorization via email.
For the longest time I have had a closed registration system because of spam attacks and errant robotic shenanigans. Lately I have been hard at work adding additional security features to the site and am now ready to allow access to all who care to step inside my humble abode.
Thank you for visiting - Share and Enjoy!
*If you would also like to see "Login with Twitter" and/or "Login with In"
let me know and I will get to work on it.
It has been two weeks since I started the "In The Spotlight" topic and have been having a pretty good time with this little project. For those who have not had the pleasure, here is the introductory text that (for now) accompanies the heading for that topic area:
In The Spotlight is a new feature of BlogDogIt.
After recently claiming BlogDogIt.com on Technorati it was obvious that - as a new member - BlogDogIt was starting at the bottom of a great heap of blogs and it would be the height of folly to think we would ever make it into Technorati's "TOP 100 Blogs" ranking. However, it is clear as day that among the listed blogs is a veritable cornucopia of content for one so intent on Bloggin' / Doggin' IT.
Through this feature, I will shine the Spotlight on selected blogs; those with a similar "authority" ranking as BlogDogIt and which cover at least one of our claimed "authority" topic areas. A big thank you to Technorati and a BlogDogIt Welcome to our spotlit blogs. Please visit these sites and tell 'em we sent you. Don't forget to come back here though - better yet add BlogDogIt RSS to your feedlist - to stay on top of what's happening at or near the bottom.
Now... Going Up?
[a bit] About Technorati
The leading blog search engine and directory, Technorati.com indexes more than a million blogs. The site has become the definitive source for the top stories, opinions, photos and videos emerging across news, entertainment, technology, lifestyle, sports, politics and business. Technorati.com tracks not only the authority and influence of blogs, but also the most comprehensive and current index of who and what is most popular in the Blogosphere.
The Technorati Top 100
The Technorati Top 100 tracks the most influential bloggers. See who's up, who's down, and what the blogosphere is paying attention to.
Me and computers go way back. My high school had a computer and a class. I did not take the class but I did use the computer room as a location for an amateur film entitled - strangely enough - "The Computer." I could not tell you what type of computer it was other than to say it was a behemoth in blue and a punch card system. This was circa 1975. A time when pocket calculators had glowing red LED displays and PONG was just hitting the streets. The world of computing was strange and new. You could not really say that I was "into" computers but it would be fair to say "we hung out." I intend to post to this blog on a somewhat regular basis. For my part I will post about things that interest me and things that may interest a certain segment of the internet at large. I would also like to formerly extend the invitation for you dear reader to register for an access account and join the fun.

I have made the executive decision to move items originally posted to "The NEWS Topic" into the ever popular "madmike's musings" BlogDogIt topic when they no longer feel like news.
This will keep "The NEWS Topic" less cluttered; keeping the News Feeds within easy reach. and may serve to breathe a little life into "madmike's musings."

I like the spell check feature of Firefox (and other browsers) but I have learned the hard way that composing lengthy prose in a web browser is a very foolhardy thing to do. Instead, I choose to compose in an offline text editor that - since it is a free evaluation version - does not do spell check . I am placing this blank "text area" here as a convenient spot to paste text for a quick spell check.
Once again I want to share a BlogDogIt milestone - a single post has recorded over 1500 hits. No surprise this is the same post that was the first to hit one thousand. In honor of this achievement I have decided to move all of the TOP TEN posts to the home page. Below is the list taken from the "Site Statistics" page:
EDIT: after one week of featuring on home page, the top ten have been returned to their normal chronological listing order. Click on the links below to review the posts.
This is really just a test post to make sure that FCKEditor is up and running.
As you can see by the above image FCKEditor features a full host of advanced editing features to simplify the creation of richly formated posts.
Until now I have been adding content to BlogDogIt.com using only the basic text area editor and manual entry of html code. I really enjoy the exersize of coding by hand after having come to rely so much on Dreamweaver for so much of the daily grinding.
I have integrated FCKEditor before in other projects and - as you too likely have - encountered it in diverse user available text editing senarios across the interwebs. Having been aware that FCKEditor was a supplied option with the GeekLog instalation I was sure that having it implemented for the benifit of our contributors would be a simple matter.
As it turned out it was simple indeed; the feature was enabled by default and one need only check the box in your User Functions ==> Language&Layout ==>
I highly recommend that you enable this feature as soon as you can following the creation of your BlogDogIt account .
I was tickled to see that FCKEditor has now changed its name (for - well - obvious reasons) to CKEditor. If you would like to learn more about FCKEditor/CKEditor Please visit the website http://ckeditor.com/.
It is my hope that you enjoy using the editor and that it helps to simplify your ability to create attractive posts and pages. I understand that while this is a nice tool it is not without its flaws. On occasion you will find the most expedient way to accomplish the task at hand is to select the view "Source" option of the editor and dive into the code. Once you get a feel for the underling code that FCKEditor is writing for you, you will truly appreciate the time this editor saves you to spite any percieved flaws.
If you ever need help using the editor or creating posts in general, I will be happy to assist you, just send me a message.
The chances of finding out what’s really going on in the universe are so remote, the only thing to do is hang the sense of it and keep yourself occupied.
Too much time has passed since we last shined (shone?) the BlogDogIt spotlight on a worthy internet destination but, as luck would have it, someone from the mysterious world of the fringe internet has seen fit to mention our sister site, InfinitelyRemote.com, as a prime example of the treasure trove of internet goodness that may be had when touring the obscure realm of gopherspace [end run-on sentence here]     Below is a republishing of a thoughtfully written article about the simpler, side of internet life. This guy might really be on-to something here...

Okay, clickbait title, you got me. Firefly Aerospace’s maiden launch of this rocket didn’t turn out so well, unfortunately. Here’s the explanation and analysis by Scott Manley — and if you like anything even remotely space-related, you need to be subscribed to him. Stay shiny, Jeff
This month actually marks the IBM 5160's 35th birthday, so why not show off my working (and pretty much complete) specimen. This is one of the later models: half-height floppy drive + ST-225 hard drive, 640K motherboard (fully populated), last BIOS revision (05/86). The latest date code on the chips is 8649, so this machine was made shortly before the XT was discontinued altogether.     I received this from Trixter, truly a gentleman and a scholar, along with a separate box of stuff to round it out: an IBM PC/XT keyboard, a joystick, some software/games (including a boxed IBM PC-DOS 3.30), and the Guide to Operations. The machine itself is very well-equipped too, complete with an XT-CF adapter, an IBM CGA board, and a Sound Blaster Pro 2.0, but more about that in a bit.
This thing went through a bit of a misadventure en-route to me. USPS turned out to have some inexplicable restrictions on package sizes to
